Clear Lake Color Guard
What
is Color Guard?
The
Clear Lake Color Guard is a section of the Falcon Marching Band. The guard
program focuses on the visual enhancement of music through the use of flags,
rifles, sabers, and dancing. The members of the color guard travel and perform
with the musicians at all UIL Contests, Bands of America Competitions, and at
halftime of all football games during the fall.
How do
I audition?
Members of the 2007 Color Guard will be chosen at Auditions. Potential New
Members are highly encouraged to attend the Camp for New Spinners prior to
auditioning. Prior dance, twirling, and spinning experience are not required,
but are beneficial. All dance and spinning skills required to be in the Color
Guard will be taught at the Camp for New Spinners and Auditions.
What
can I expect if I make the guard?
Attendance at all fall rehearsals, totaling no more than 8 hours per week, and
attendance at all football games and performances is a MUST. We are the most
visual section on the football field, and thus, rely on each and every member to
be at all rehearsals. Members must purchase a uniform (approx. $100), as well
as other items including, but not limited to, gloves, shoes, warm-up suits,
guard t-shirt, and guard bag.
New Members are required to attend Rookie Camp at the end of May/beginning of June. Additional summer rehearsals for all members include a camp the final week in June, rehearsals every Tuesday in July, and a camp at the end of July. Although attendance is not required at these June and July rehearsals, it is strongly suggested that members attend all that they are in town for. Band Camp, a required event for all members, will be in August before school starts. No June or July weekday rehearsals will begin before 4pm. The exact schedule will be handed out to those making the guard on May 9th.
What
do I get out of being in the guard?
New
Members just starting high school will begin the school year already knowing
many members of the CLHS Band (which includes the color guard), and several
other freshmen, some of which may even be in the same classes. Your friendships
will develop throughout the season and continue on for many years to come. You
will have experiences and memories that last a lifetime. You'll get to
exercise, spend time in the sun, and enjoy the company of your friends, all
while being involved in one of the biggest organizations at CLHS. You'll get to
perform for hundreds of your classmates at football games, take bus trips to
other high schools and competitions, knowing all the time that you have the
support of older guard members to help you adjust to high school, marching band,
and color guard. You'll naturally improve your time management skills,
prioritization and organization skills, and obviously, your eye-hand
coordination skills. Lastly, and most importantly, color guard will develop you
into the performer you've always wanted to be!
